WBPP (Weighted Batch Pre Processing) in Pixinsight
WBPP (Weighted Batch Pre Processing) in Pixinsight
Just a quick post this time to show my latest video explainer, part of my current run looking at the processes I use within the image processing software, PixInsight.
During a recent upgrade to PixInsight, I found that some of the options which I used to use as part of my calibration and stacking workflow were no longer available. This coincided with a new release of the script WBPP. At time of filming, the video was produced using v 2.5.6.
This isn't the first experience I've had with the script. Indeed back in my earliest days using PixInsight, it was a script I used a reasonable amount, but occasionally struggled with. That was why I changed to doing everything manually and produced my workflow for the time accordingly.
Fast forward a number of years and I noticed a buzz amongst fellow astro-imagers about the new/latest version of the script. It's familiar but slightly different compared the the version I used some years ago but it was time to take another look at it. Swayed also by the fact that quite a number of people now seem to be saying that they now exclusively use the script for their calibration and stacking routines. Sounded good to me! After a few tutorials and some trial and error, I've had it running for several data sets and so far, no issues. I have had to make one amendment to my image capturing process though. I've made it part of the routine to capture a set of flat dark calibration frames which I hadn't done before. For some reason, I found the script runs better with them.
Check out my YouTube channel for the rest of my videos. I hope to add to them in the future, so if you want to be notified of new uploads, just subscribe 😉.
Until next time, clear skies!
